Veronica Presents…Kevin Keller – The Gay Live Review!

I want to live in Riverdale!

It is a place that seems to have families like Donna Reed and Leave it to Beaver. You know, those perfect nuclear families where nobody seems to have a drunk uncle or drug addicted older brother who was blowing everyone in the boys bathroom.

Riverdale is the home to our squeaky-clean comic book character Archie. We all KNOW Archie and his adventures. WHITE BREAD!

But, as I reported before, the Archie family now consists of a homosexual boy that was welcomed with open arms by the Riverdale gang! Amazing! Here is my review of his new – all HIM – comic book: Veronica Presents…Kevin Keller!

First, Kevin came to town with a completely different stylized look which instantly made him wantable by all the girls. This kid had style. Not the antiquated style of Reggie and Archie. At first, his friendship with Jughead raised eyebrows - but not in the way you’d expect. See, Kevin has the same kind of appetite that Jughead does. They are foodies – not fuckbuddies!

Kevin is a huge fan of his father, and has so much respect for him – which is lovely. This is important as it plays a role in later in this issue.
His childhood friends Wendy & William come to town, and give us the scoop on Kevin pre-Riverdale. Seems he was that pimply-faced boy with braces that just wasn’t popular. My how things change over one summer, when you grow 5 inches, your skin clears up and your braces come off. What didn’t change was Kevin’s personality he was still that thoughtful, sweet boy.

There is some boring family drama about jobs and careers and future – but I kind of skipped over that…Went right to the big parade and pie-eating contest! It’s Kevin vs. Jughead! Only, Veronica had a ditzy moment after picking up the pies and didn’t refrigerate them. Guess what? They were cream pies too, so ya know they spoiled! But not all is lost, as the boys end up throwing up all over Veronica, though that happens off panel which is too bad I’d have loved to seen that.

Kevin’s dad is proud of his son and Veronica wonders aloud to Wendy if his father “knows” about him. Now, if you know Veronica, I doubt she has an indoor voice. Which means - Kevin’s Dad hears her and his response is that “he’s proud of his son, gay or straight”.

Yeah, it’s slightly hokey and somewhat cheesy – but overall, this is Riverdale and the message is a good one. All that matters is the person you are on the inside, though if your good looking it makes things easier.
